Blanket Cylinder

Blanket Cylinder. The part of an offset lithographic printing press containing a rubber blanket to which the inked image is transferred from the plate, and which then transfers the inked image to the paper or other substrate.
The purpose of the printing blanket is to transfer the image from the master to the sheet. In other words, the printing blanket is the medium that carries the image from the plate to the paper. Printing blankets are designed to be removed and replaced periodically to compensate for wear.

Blankets are normally used only for beds or other sleeping areas, since their size corresponds to the sizing of sheets. Their primary function is for warmth and they're seldom used for decoration, but often under bedspreads or a duvet.
